Welcome to Music

Music is an integral part of the Creative Arts department at  Regents Park Community College and aims to deliver high quality education and specialist training in all aspects of Music. Students are given every opportunity to play an active role in the musical life of the college and surrounding community and to pursue a wide range of activities both within and outside the classroom.

All students at Regents Park Community College are taught Music up to the end of Key Stage 3. In year 7 students learn music as part of the Creative Arts Curriculum. From year 8 upwards students have separate music lessons. Beyond key stage 3, Music becomes part of the options programme with students taking the Edexcel GCSE Music syllabus in year 11. As part of their musical studies, all of our students have access to a wide range of instruments from orchestral to rock, IT equipment including Apple Macintosh computers and recording equipment.

Alongside the classroom teaching the school also offers peripatetic music lessons with teachers from Southampton Music Service (all Southampton Music service teachers hold a PGCE in music) offering a wide range of instruments from Harp to Guitar to Double Bass.

All students are actively encouraged to join one of the Music activities offered through the college. There is a full Wind Band and Orchestra, a choir and bands. All the ensembles meet throughout the week on various afternoons and lunchtimes. Every term there is a Creative Arts Evening where students are encouraged to perform Music of their own choice before an invited audience. Music is also very closely involved with Art and Drama in producing a stage show or musical every year. Currently staff and students are in rehearsals for a production of The Wizard of OZ which will be staged in July.

Regents Park Community College has always been very proud of its results in the Arts and there has been a number of musicians who have gone on to university, to study music and eventually go in to the profession as a player, musicologist, writer or the commercial side of Music, production, recording and engineering.
